Using the Twitter Extension

Day to day, using the Twitter extension is a matter of pasting handles into the right meta boxes. This article walks through the team, player, and staff workflows and the small set of options that control the embed appearance.

Connecting a team to Twitter

  1. Go to SportsPress → Teams and edit the team.

  2. In the Twitter meta box, enter the team's Twitter handle (without @).

  3. Update the post.

The team's page will now show a Tweets section displaying the most recent tweets — limited by the Limit setting under SportsPress → Settings → General → Twitter.

Connecting a player to Twitter

Same workflow as teams:

  1. Edit the player at SportsPress → Players.

  2. Enter the username in the Twitter meta box.

  3. Update.

Connecting staff to Twitter

  1. Edit the staff record at SportsPress → Staff.

  2. Enter the username.

  3. Update.

Switching between light and dark themes

If your site uses a dark theme and the default light Twitter embed clashes:

  1. Go to SportsPress → Settings → General → Twitter.

  2. Change Theme from Light to Dark.

  3. Save.

The change applies to all team, player, and staff pages.

Reordering the Tweets section

The Tweets section can be moved relative to other sections (results, schedule, performance) on team / player / staff pages:

  1. Go to SportsPress → Settings → Teams (or Players, or Staff).

  2. Drag the Tweets row to the desired position in the template stack.

  3. Save.

Troubleshooting

Symptom

Likely cause

Section appears but no tweets

Username is misspelled, account is private, or the user has no recent tweets

Section missing entirely

Tweets template option is disabled at SportsPress → Settings → [Post Type], or the username field is empty

Embed shows on local dev but not production

Hosting blocks Twitter's widget JavaScript — check browser console

Username includes the @ symbol

Remove the @ — the field expects the bare username
